My Makeup Journey

SFX

Special effect makeup I must say is one of the coolest things I have ever done. I never thought I would enjoy creating gore, but here I am telling you I LOVE creating gore with makeup. SFX is something I seem to have picked up rather quickly and easily.

A few months ago I did a class on special effects and I had the best time learning all about how to create different prosthetic and different kinds of makeup that you wouldn't see in most magazines.

I first learnt all about theater makeup and how to age someone using creams and OMG it is very dramatic and full-on but so much fun to do. Aging a face is so much fun and easy I took to it like a duck to water. I got to work and created this amazing effort. Forgive the model he wasn't overly liking the idea of being aged by makeup but what a champ he let me do it and take some images of it. Now when you view the images keep in mind that you would normally see this from a stage under massive amounts of lights from a distance.

I have also learnt how to age using latex and this was just as much fun a few more steps a lot longer to apply but, the results where just outstanding. I managed to pick this up just as quickly and easily. My model for the day was just amazing a young 24 year old who I made into a 70 year old. This was not the easiest thing to do but I achieved it and I was rather happy with the results. The image below will show you the results of the effort. The time it took to apply and to remove was a very long process but, the results were worth the effort.

Excuse the bad wig. Was just there to enhance the aged look.
Other SFX techniques I have learnt over the week have been cuts and bruises and again I can not express how much fun I had using makeup and special effects makeup to create the below looks. I actually started to get queasily towards the end of the cut application that is how realistic it was coming, i don't do well with open flesh at the best of times. Blood I can handle fine though.

Bruises was just as fun though did take a little more planning and thinking to have it be believable once the I had finished. I had to think about the age of the bruise where I had the impact and how big the impact was. After all this was decided it was quite easy and just required a gentle hand to help blend the makeup to have it believable I hope you like the results I created.

This is a fresh bruise with quite a heavy impact

A fresh wound! This grossed me out as I was doing this one.

As you can see I have had a great time so far learning Special Effects. I have more to learnt more since I first started to write this blog which I will share another time. Keep your eyes open for more special effect makeup. Please feel free to contact me or leave a comment and I will get back to you.

Bridal Bookings

The honor it is to do a lady’s makeup on her big day is one of the most honorable bookings I get. The excitement and pleasure I get from the moment you book with me to the completion of your look is beyond words.

I love the preparation and deciding on the ideal look for your big day. Getting to be creative and to work out what not, only will look best but bring your big day look together with makeup and hair is exciting. Some brides go for full on makeup glam looks and others just want to get a minimal but polished look. No matter your style and makeup need I am here to help create your perfect look for your perfect day.

Wedding makeup is one of the most important makeup applications of a women’s life and as such I take every step to ensure your makeup is looking its absolute best and lasts the distance. I pride myself on creating the perfect makeup for photography and for the mirror to allow the natural beauty of the bride’s excitement and happiness to shine through and to allow the camera to capture it too. It is a balancing act to creating makeup that is perfect for both but with my experience as a bride, makeup artist and an artist that’s worked on many photo shoots I am proud to say I can create this very look.

The Glam Bride – This bride is looking for the full glam makeup with eyebrows on fleek and stunning eyes, skin and lips that pop. This bride loves the highlight and the contour and false lashes to match with very polished hair styles. This style makeup is fir the bride who loves makeup already who wears it often, not often will you see a non-makeup wearer wearing this style makeup on her wedding day. This bride often loves Instagram makeup artists and find their bridal makeup look here.

The no makeup - makeup bride – This bride likes minimal makeup but still enough to make her feel done up and pretty. She often doesn’t wear makeup or when she does its usually the minimal makeup. False lashes still could be applied here to help pop the eyes especially in photographs. The makeup is simple with natural colours such as light browns or soft pinks with lighter lip colour then the glam bride. She may still have full coverage foundation depending on the skin and how comfortable she is. I love creating simple makeup looks or the bride because it is all about showing off their natural beauty. This is the look that’s most in and what Megan Markle wore when she married Prince Harry in early 2018. Perfect for the beach, boohoo or casual/simple wedding to give that feeling of effort and feeling special without going beyond her comfort zone.

The In-between Bride – This bride is in-between the no makeup and the glam bride with a heavier eye or lip look to make her makeup pop. You won’t find this bride with full on eyes and lips as it is more about one or the other, this is a great way to stepping up a bridal look but still looking quite natural and you. A full coverage to medium coverage foundation is recommended for this look with either a stunning red lip or a much stronger eye look with a winged liner, pinks or browns to highlight the beauty in the bride’s eyes. Some highlight would be an added glam touch that won’t take the look over the top keeping in with the feel of the bridal’s natural elegance. This makeup is perfect for the more formal affair but still casual, cocktail style weddings. This is by far one of my favorite wedding makeup styles to do, because its taking the natural beauty and adding a bit of glam to the look creating a great photographic look but keeping the bride relaxed.

On the wedding day it is important to have picked the right makeup artist that not only will deliver the look you wish to have created, but the feeling of relaxed and ease that she will add to your day. Not having a well-run day creates stress and an unwanted amount of unease to your day, one of those things that you don’t want is a makeup artist that isn’t there on time or who is causing you more stress then its worth. Picking your makeup artist is challenging, my recommendation is to meet with your artist, or speak with her over the phone to get a feel for her and her knowledge of makeup, then book her in. I offer consultations free of charge to connect with a bride prior to her booking me to confirm that I am the right fit and that her day running smoothly is my main goal along with makeup to die for.

I highly recommend you have a wedding hair and makeup trial prior to your big day, this will help iron out and issues and miscommunications you may have had. Book this in for when you have an event, big dinner or even better your hen’s night which would also help you know how it will wear and what you did and didn’t like when going back through your photos of the night. If there are issues you had I recommend speaking with the makeup artist and seeing what her thoughts are and how she handles it if she doesn’t handle it with poise and grace I then would book with a new artist. Always give your artist a chance to fix any errors and issues you may have prior to booking a new artist.

I love making my brides feel at easy and relaxed it’s a long day and a big one the more relaxed they are the more they will enjoy the day. I focus first on the bridal party getting them all sorted first along with any little kids that are there too. Then I can put all my attention onto the bride, giving her the full attention from that moment on makes her feel thought of, relaxed and ready for the big day. I make sure she has eaten something prior to walking down the isle as its such a long time from the ceremony to the serving of dinner. Wine and drinks should be flowing but not so much so that she’s going to fall down the isle as she walks towards the man of her dreams, her best friend, her future.

I love weddings and I can’t wait for every wedding season to come along to help prepare brides for their future. If you need a Makeup and Hair artist for your upcoming nuptules please feel free to contact me for a detailed pricing and details. I can cater for large or small groups and location isn’t a worry just may incur an added cost dependent on the distance from my location in Newcastle, NSW, Australia.

Dreams can come true!
